TINK Story: By Katherine Horvath

TINK!

All is quiet in the city of New York, the stars shine brightly and the moon glistens a sort of whitish beam that slowly creeps into the Starling residence. There alone Wendy sits by the window sill looking up towards the brightest star to the right and slowly sighs.
“Oh how I wish my Peter would come back to me and take me to Neverland where we can forever be young and in love.”
Looking up at the same sky with the exception of two moons beaming upon a face of a  boy, a quiet and reserved yet anxious young man sits on a branch upon the ever growing willow tree. As he ponders in the dead of night, he silently thinks about Wendy, his one and only true love. His mind wonders to a place where he thought he would never go again, he knows in his heart that Wendy still loves him and he feels that he needs to relinquish the love that is gradually dwindling little by little between their two worlds.
As quick as it was to think about Wendy, Peter became so filled with joy that he couldn’t just sit and imagine that Wendy was there with him, he knew that he had to go to New York and bring her back so they could spend eternity in each others arms.
A twinkle of green light wisped by Peter in an aggressive manner and swooped down to land on his shoulder.
“Oh Tink this is it, I am going to get back the woman I care so deeply for and bring her back to Neverland so we can all live together. This is so perfect; ill have you Tink, the pixie on a pedestal and Wendy, my love in my arms”.
A complex feeling of jealousy and slight rage came over the petite fairy figure. As she crossed, her arms the feeling happened to trigger a minor mischievous look that swept across her face and bordered Peter’s thoughts.
In the pale moon light, Wendy sat next to the window and look of longing and hope swept across her face. She moved side to side as if to sing a hymn of joy and pictured herself next to Peter. All of a sudden, a rattle and a shake shook the room, Wendy gasped off the window sill and onto her feet. In a split, second a shadowy, mysterious outline of a human danced around the room.
Wendy peered around the room wide eyed and frightened, “Hello is someone there? She silently called out to the dark. Out of no where a flash of green light zipped pass Wendy and knocked her to her knees.
“Tink, stop that foolishness…..Wendy are you ok?” Peter’s hands reached out to grab Wendy’s delicate fingers.
“Oh why thank you my sweet Pan, I have missed you so!” Wendy replied to Peter as she leaned in to share a passionate kiss that seemed to turn the room upside down. On the other hand, it only darkened the area, condensed the space and felt as if the room was caving in with fury that boiled deep down inside of Tink’s stomach.
“I have come to take you away from all this, and fly to Neverland where we can never grow up and we can always be together. Just you, me and Tink,” Peter stood with a proud look on his face.
A look of green sickness came over Tink and she flew with the notion of insignificance to Peter and Wendy.
“Off to Neverland I go, time to take out Wendy and get Peter back for my own”, Tink said with a chuckle and flew off with haste, leaving behind only the dust that rushed around the two remaining figures in the room.
The sun was shinning bright as ever as the moon was just fading into the background of the sky; Tink knew she had her work cut out for herself.
She mumbled under her breath with a kind of sinister tone, “How am I gunna do this….I need to devise a strategy and make it look like accidents!”
Straight ahead stood a house built within a tree that heightened all the evergreens within the forbidden forest. Tink aimed her wings and like a bow and arrow shot directly towards one of the branches. She perched upon the willow branch and pondered. Putting her tiny fingers to her head and scrunching her face as if to appear in complete deep thought, an idea popped into her head like a light bulb bursting into flame. As Tink scoped the landscape, she noticed smoke and triangular houses just beyond the forest.
“The Indian Sanctuary…..of course!” she blurted out while patting herself on the back.
A shivering wind covered the land as two creatures hovered over the ground and landed gently like a hero after defeating the horrible antagonist.
“Oh Peter, just look around….its so beautiful and its like I never even left, it looks the same, yet different all at once,” Wendy said with happiness that made her face glow with great astonishment.
Peter then stretched his hand to meet with Wendy’s and began to slowly walk towards the house while soaking in the atmosphere with every step they took and reminiscing about all the good times they had back in the day.
The sky began to fill with blackened smoke and lit up with shades of red and orange. Tink flew with speed and approached Peter and Wendy with extreme acceleration.
“Oh my god, it’s the f...f...f...forest! Peter the forest is on FIRE! You need to do something before the whole place burns!” Tink shouted with a look of panic and shock. While deep inside laughing, hysterically knowing it was just part of the plan to get Wendy alone.
“Alright Tink you stay here with Wendy and I will go save the forest.”
“No Peter it’s too dangerous, what if you get killed and I never see you again?” Wendy exclaimed while whimpering in Peter’s arms.
“Don’t worry, I promise I will be back, Tink will take good care of you….won’t you Tink!”
Tink nodded with a satisfying grin on her face and Peter flew off towards the hot colours beyond.
As Tink guided Wendy the opposite direction away from the eyes of Peter, they both gradually started to step upon sacred ground. Wendy not knowing, but sensing the mist and peaceful yet daring atmosphere around them, quickly glanced behind to look at Tink to feel comforted by her presence. There was certainly a presence behind her, but it wasn’t Tink, it was much larger and the numbers sky rocketed. Wendy held her arms around herself and tried closing her eyes as if to make it seem like a dream. When she opened her eyes, she saw that she was surrounded by hundreds of Indians and was trapped in the middle of group circle. She was tied tightly around a stump with thousands of branches and logs around her feet, her mouth was gagged and tears began to trinkle down her cheeks.
“We are gathered here under the direction of Sir Chief Zambino for the trespassing of this Wendy Girl, she has broken the agreement with the creatures of Neverland and has set foot upon our sacred lands, she must be burned at the stake,” a chubby little post guard for the Indian Chief said with all seriousness and blood red eyes that pierced your very soul.
The crowd began to step closer and closer towards Wendy chanting “BURN HER, BURN HER!” The chubby guard came running down the isle with a lit torch in his hand, Wendy’s eyes filled with terror and the brightness of the fire. Tink hidden behind the Chief’s head chair watched and giggled as if she got some sick pleasure from suffer and pain. As the man was just about to light the branches on fire, Peter flew in and kicked the man, sent the torch flying in the air onto the ground.
“What business do you have here, young Peter Pan?” Chief Zambino shouted while rising out of his chair.
“This young woman has done nothing to disturb you peaceful people, she is but new to the ways and did not know of our agreement, please let her go and we shall never disturb the peace between our two worlds again,” Peter pleaded.
“Alright, I will let you off with a warning, but if I ever see her or anyone of your creatures on our part of the land again…..it will be the death of you all!”
Peter grabbed Wendy and quickly flew onto safer territory.
“I was so scared, I thought they were going to really kill me…..and I have no idea where Tink was, and I think they might have captured her too!” Wendy explained while trying to catch her breath.
Just as Peter was about to put his two cents in, Tink came from behind and landed on Peter’s shoulder.
“I just got away in time, I am so sorry Wendy I had no idea that we were on their grounds. I must have been distracted or something. Please forgive me!” Tink raised one eye brow and pouted her lips at Wendy so she looked as innocent as can be. Wendy gazed upon the pixie and forgave her for Peter’s sake and it was left at that.
So the two of them began to venture back to the tree house, while Tink straddled behind them, thinking of other ways to get the job done and wondering why those plan didn’t work.
“It was perfect, clever, and devilish…yet Peter still knew… how is that?” Tink thought to herself as she floated in mid air amongst the trees.
Peter picked up Wendy, flew her up to the tree house, and knocked on the door. They were then greeted with the pitter patter steps of 7 young boys rushing towards the wooden door. Peter reached for the handle and turned the knob, and as the door opened, the pile of boys poured out.
“Wendy, Wendy!” they all shouted, and fighting between themselves to be the first ones to talk to her.
“Settle down boys, I missed you all my little darlings. Now sit around me and I will tell you a story and then it is off to bed with you.” So Wendy sat in front of the boys, while peter went to the bedroom and took a nap.
Tink still flying around the forest, not yet ready to go in and be with the young couple and the boys, she decided to go sit by the lagoon and think about her next strategy. She floated gently down onto a rock and sat next to the crystal, shimmering water throwing pebbles into the deep dark abyss. As the ripples multiplied, so did the heads of 5 mystical darkened creatures. These weren’t any ordinary creatures; they were mysterious and hypnotic half fish, half human magical beings. They had the faces of a mischievous manner along with the will of devilish play. These mermaids were not your typical fairytale immortals; they were dark and would certainly drown you if you got too close. While looking out to them playing and splashing around in the moonlight, Tink knew about their evil minds and that they did not like human folk. She quickly got up off the rock and made a dash to the forest leaving the mermaids in for a playful surprise.
Back at the house, it was getting late and Wendy tucked all the boys into bed and went into the bedroom where Peter lay. She kissed Peter on the forehead and pulled the covers over his body. As Wendy was just about to join him in the bed for a good nights sleep.... Tink tapped on the window. Wendy put a robe on and rapidly walked over to the window to let Tink in.
“What is it Tink? I was just about to go to bed…you should get some rest too,” Wendy explained with a drowsy voice mixed with a couple of yawns.
“I was just thinking, it’s a lovely night out tonight…and I think it would be a great time for us to bond and I can show you this amazing spot where the stars shimmer over the water…its very beautiful. What do you say?” Tink looked up at Wendy with a show of good intentions, just the unseen devil horns that stood promptly on the top of her golden hair was the only thing Wendy did not expect.
Wendy seemed a little hesitant at the start but thought that she needed a little adventure in her life so she accepted Tink’s offer and accompanied her to the lagoon.
Tink was right; the stars were bright and lovely that night. It filled the lagoon with shimmering specks of diamond lights. Wendy walked around the rim of the water and squatted to look in to see her reflection. As she peered over the edge, two eyes appeared in the water and matched with Wendy’s face. A voice of a million harps began to sing deep within the water’s surface.
“Come play with us, come down to the deep and swim,” the mermaids began to chant and coax.
“Oh I couldn’t possibly,” Wendy explained in a shy and slightly afraid manner.
As Wendy was getting up and felt ready to leave the lagoon, the mystical creatures reached out and began to grab at her dress, trying to pull her into the dark water.
“Stop that, stop it I say,” Wendy shouted at them while trying to get away, but it was too late, the last grab pulled her into the water and the mermaids began to have their way with her. Tink just stood there watching and thinking this was it, she was really going to get her way now. Wendy is really going to die. At the last gasp of air Wendy was dragged under the water and all that was seen were air bubbles against the cold rippling abandoned water.
